Old McDonald’s Had A Farm And A BigMac?

Today's post is a guest post from Chris over at canadiandad.com . Make sure you head over and check him out... well check his blog out that is :).

Old McDonald’s. At least that’s what my kid’s refer to McDonald’s as. I don’t know where that came from but if it works for them, it works for me.

Yep, I said it. I sometimes enjoy taking my kids to McDonald’s. Sometimes for breakfast, sometimes for lunch or dinner and sometimes I even take them there just for the Happy Meal toy, if it’s a really good one.

I always wanted to be the parent that boycotted all the junk and went straight healthy. As you can clearly see from my opening statement, that didn’t happen.

There’s something about those giant Golden Arches that acts as a magnetic force anytime you pass it. The creepy clown, the fat purple blob and the terrible harm the food can do should be enough to keep you away, yet there’s something that keeps you coming back for more.

Do you know why McDonald’s has taken up shop in Wal-Mart’s? I do. It’s because when your kid throws a tantrum because he wants a $40 toy from the toy section, you can end it by getting him a Happy Meal for $3.99.

How many stores can you go to and get a hamburger, fries, chocolate milk (yep, I even get them chocolate milk, what?) AND a top of the line Hot Wheels car or My Little Pony figurine, for under $5? The answer to that is None! Pure genius!

I know, I know, bleeding hearts of the world unite! This man takes his children to McDonald’s and forces them to eat that harmful poison they call food!! Well guess what? They like it there and I don’t mind eating the occasional Happy Meal either.

I’m not perfect, but I do my best to be a good father and I think this is a nice way to change things up every now and then. Besides, it’s not like we eat there 2-3 times a week, it’s really only when we do a family trip to Wal-Mart, which is a whole different story all together....

Thanks a million to Jennifer for letting me contribute to her little chunk of the internet! She’s a cool cat and I can see why you all love to read her blog!

~Cheers!

We don't go often, but the kids do love the french fries....and it's nice that they can run around and play while I sit on my butt for a few minutes

Mine run around and play at the Wal-Mart one too, even though there's no playland, lol.

My kids would happily play/eat there every day if I let them. We can even walk to one from our house.
I have made the choice though that we never get happy meals. I don't like their toys - I've never found happy meal toys to be so outstandingly quality that they are worth the money. I'd rather buy a 10 piece chicken combo and split it between them. They are ok with that. Mostly - they just want to play in the playplace - which works for me - darned energetic boys!

Anyone else find that their kids always seem to get sick after playing at a McD's PlayPlace? It's so weird...

I hear ya Lisa but then again, my kids get sick no matter what play place we go to so I guess it all evens itself out, lol.

I take my daughter there on rain days to play in the playground sometimes. Cheap fun for her.

My kids ask for McDonalds every single night. We may get it for them once or twice a month, but they are relentless in asking. Fun post, Chris. Hope all is well, Jennifer.

We've never gone to a McD's with a playground.
Maybe I'll grab a coffee and check it out.
Okay, I might indulge in a corn...I mean all beef patty and have a 1/4 pounder. That was my fave...
